The patient, at the age of 40, came to Dental Progressclinic because of aesthetic and functional reasons. The left central incisor had a very large periodontal pocket along the entire length of the root which has been draining for the past few years, the patient being needed to daily press on the adjacent area to clear the accumulated pus. The decision to save a seriously affected tooth by an infection draining for so long was a real challenge. The first phase of the treatment was the periodontal surgery which consisted in the removal of the infected area and in bone augmentation for the area with bone loss. It was required to perform an additional gum grafting surgery in order to cover the zone with gum defect . Practically the palatal mucosa has been harvested from the palate and placed on the defective area. Three months later the infection was completely gone and the gum looked much better; so we managed to save a tooth that some colleagues would have chosen to extract and we also managed to please our patient.
