Clinical case 4424

The patient, at the age of 23, came to our clinic with dento-alveolar incongruity (crowded teeth) and severe periodontal affections that caused her serious gum bleeding. At the periodontal examination there could be observed periodontal pockets with an up to 10 mm depth and with a generalized bone loss for both arches. Considering that the periodontal pockets were so deep and the bone loss was so major the treatment of the periodontitis was a surgical one that implied a periodontal flap surgery and bone augmentation with BioOss and Emdogain. On the lower front zone, at the central incisor level, the vestibular bone was missing on a length of 2/3 length of the root causing an about 10 mm gum recession. On the same surgical phase it was also performed the coverage of the gingival recession for the central incisor by gum repositioning without grafting, this grafting procedure being planned to be done on a further phase, after the removal of the braces.

The result was satisfying, the gum repositioning 5-6 mm higher. After the healing stage the gingival mucosa (gum) did not present inflammations, did not bleed at brushing and its aspect was a lot improved.
